Pasture-Raised Chicken in the Holiday Spotlight

The team at Big Bluff Ranch is deeply committed to raising healthy, organic chicken and helping to protect, preserve, improve, and sustain the land for future generations. Their pasture-raised birds are rotated through different pastures to provide natural pest control without chemicals, and are never fed corn or soy. Big Bluff Ranch limits tilling on their land to preserve beneficial microbes in the soil, and they have a robust cover-cropping program to support soil health and prevent soil erosion.

Inspired by their time spent on a biodynamic farm in Switzerland, local producers Silver Sky Ranch use holistic farming practices to raise cattle and chickens on their Petaluma ranch. They rotate their cattle through their pastures, followed by their chickens who are able to enjoy fresh, tender plant growth and scratch for insects. This act of foraging allows them to express their natural behaviors. Silver Sky Ranch raises a diverse range of chickens including: Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Ameracunas, White Leghorns, and Rhode Island Reds.
